Curiosity, Courage and a Little Bit of Fun

I always knew I was a little different from my peers. While they read up on the latest technical advances in engineering and technology, I checked out yet another self-help book from the library or tuned into a business leadership podcast. And since becoming a parent, I've often said that the best parenting books are leadership books — and the best leadership books are parenting books.

My favourite part of all my professional roles has always been helping others grow into the people they want to be. I've always asked my direct reports what their goals were and how I could best support them. We'd work together to make a plan, and I'd help them in the way they wanted to be helped. It made the decision to pursue my coaching certification an easy one — I wanted more tools to do all of that better.

Through my coaching journey, I've learned the importance of trusting people to know themselves best. I hold a structure for guided exploration of a chosen topic and offer observations without judgment or colour from my own biases. My approach is grounded in curiosity, collaboration, courage — and of course, some fun.

Not only has coaching allowed me to better help others, I've truly grown through this process — and now coaching has found its way into all aspects of my life, including how I parent. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and finding out how I can draw on everything I've learned to help them on their journey.
